The establishment of Padmanabhaswamy temple, though not certain, is anticipated to have taken place about 5000 years ago. This temple of Lord Vishnu, situated in the Trivandrum city of Kerala, proves the proverb- ‘Old is Gold’ in literal meaning as this ancient place of religion has been marked as the wealthiest place of worship in the entire world, due to the enormous gold and precious stones treasured there till date, along with the massive land it is widespread in.
The temple has been built in an amalgamation form of the Dravidian and Keralan style of architecture. The principal idol of Lord Padmanabhaswamy has been depicted in a slumber mode, where HE is resting on the huge serpent- Ananta, which is seen covering the Lord’s face with its five hooded head. This idol also completes the trio of Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh by incorporating petite versions of their presence along with Lord Vishnu.
Setting apart its spiritual and historical aspect of greatness, the temple has a lot more to offer in terms of magnificent architecture, scenic beauty, and an elevated location which enables a great view of the nearby oceans. Kulasekhara Mandapam, The Golden flag-staff, Mural Paintings and the Sreebalippura are some of the many attractions of this divine place which make it fall in the ‘Must -Visit’ list of every tourist or localist.
